(Beloit, WI) - Diamond Foods, Inc., which purchased Kettle®Chips earlier this year, announced an expansion at its Beloit production site. The project involves a $38MM facility investment and a commitment to add 100 new employment positions. Construction is scheduled for Spring 2011 with a proposed Q1 2012 operations date. To facilitate the project, the City of Beloit provided a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) package and the State of Wisconsin contributed a $1.25MM Development Opportunity Zone (DOZ) Tax Credit award.

"Diamond Foods is proud to be able to expand our Beloit operations by investing to create new jobs and better serve our customers and consumers," said Michael J. Mendes, Chairman, President and CEO. Beloit City Manager Larry Arft added, "We are very pleased that Beloit was chosen for this expansion project and we look forward to continually enhancing this business relationship."

Four years ago, Kettle Foods established its roots in Beloit's Gateway Business Park and became one of the first Gold LEED Certified Buildings in the U.S. The company's sustainable practices were highlighted by the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, which recognized Kettle as their 2008 Sustainability Grand Award recipient.

According to James Otterstein, Rock County Economic Development Manager, "This project further demonstrates that Rock provides an ideal environment to facilitate growth within the Food Processing & Technology sector. Otterstein further comments, "That's why several recognized food related companies and brand names call Rock County home."
