(Beloit, WI) – Genencor International announced their intentions to invest approximately $30 Million at the company’s Beloit Plant. The investment will enhance the company’s enzyme manufacturing capabilities / capacities by adding technology-intensive applications, equipment and processes. These investments will also enable Genencor to implement additional sustainable practices and leverage key market diversification opportunities. As a global biotechnology firm, Genencor specializes in discovering, developing and manufacturing industrial enzymes.

The Beloit Plant, which services the company’s agri processing specialty division, has been operational since 1984 – albeit under different ownership.  The current plant is nearly 130,000 SF and it is located within the City’s I-90 Business Park. Highly trained lab, maintenance and process technicians staff this 24 x 7 operation.

The Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation is facilitating this project through a low-interest financing package, while details concerning other possible assistance are likely to surface within the near future.

According to James Otterstein, Rock County Economic Development Manager, “This particular project is a testament to the collaboration that can exist between the public and private sectors. In the not too distant past, the outlook for the Beloit Plant was less than stable. Thankfully, that situation blossomed into an exceptional opportunity to enhance this global biotechnology company’s presence locally.”
