(Janesville, WI) – GHC Specialty Brands, formerly known as Lab Safety Supply, announced a series of vertically integrated moves that will optimize W.W. Grainger’s and Lab Safety’s business models. Once optimized, these changes will lead to increased product distribution efficiencies, as well as capital investments and employment at their Janesville facility. GHC’s Janesville operation is nearly 600,000 SF and it has an employment base numbering over 900 individuals.

Established in 1927, Grainger has developed into the leading broad-line supplier of facilities maintenance products serving businesses and institutions in the United States, Canada, Mexico, India, China and Panama. With the acquisition of Lab Safety Supply in 1992, Grainger’s highly integrated network includes more than 600 branches, 18 distribution centers and multiple product Internet sites.

The integration of Grainger and Lab Safety Supply affords the company with the best combination of product selection, local availability, speed of delivery and simplicity of ordering. Moreover, this integration will enhance the utilization of its real estate and lead to the creation of 130 new employment positions at its Janesville facility.

The Wisconsin Department of Commerce facilitated this project by offering $500,000 in Development Opportunity Zone (DOZ) Tax Credits. The Janesville DOZ was activated in YR 2009 and awarded a $5 Million tax credit pool to assist with qualified economic development projects. Projects that qualify for DOZ assistance may be eligible to claim credits that are calculated on capital investment, as well as employment commitments. Additional project support was provided by the City of Janesville’s Tax Increment Financing program.
