(Rock County, WI) According to SmartAsset’s™ fourth annual study on the best places to work in manufacturing, the Janesville-Beloit MSA ranks among the Top 25 metropolitan statistical areas in the U.S. In addition to the Janesville-Beloit MSA, the only other WI metro areas to make this list were Appleton and Fond du Lac. To determine its 2019 rankings, SmartAsset™ considered the following statistics: manufacturing as a percentage of the metro area’s total workforce; one-and-four year (manufacturing) job growth; one-and-four year (manufacturing) income growth; and median housing costs as a percentage of (manufacturing) income.

These rankings provide further confirmation regarding the Janesville-Beloit MSA’s strong manufacturing presence, which has continued to expand and diversify after the Great Recession. Since 2010, more than 45% of the projects announced in Rock County – representing expansions, new investments and start-ups – have been manufacturing-related. During this same time period, more than 50% of the annual economic development pipeline activity targeting the Janesville-Beloit MSA has been affiliated with the manufacturing sector.
