City Launches GM/JATCO Redevelopment Project Website and Community Survey

June 25, 2026

(Janesville, WI) The City of Janesville and the GM/JATCO Redevelopment Advisory Board have launched the official project website for the GM/JATCO Redevelopment Project at janesvillewi.gov/gmjatco . The website serves as a central hub for project updates, background information, maps, timelines, and opportunities to participate in shaping the future of the former GM/JATCO properties.

As part of the project’s public engagement process, the City has also opened an online community survey, available through Thursday, July 8, 2026. The survey invites residents, employees, business owners, and anyone interested in the site’s future to share their ideas and priorities. Input gathered will help guide redevelopment strategies for a long-term vision that reflects community needs and aspirations.

This engagement opportunity comes as the GM/JATCO Redevelopment Advisory Board, in partnership with City staff and project consultants at Stantec, is currently 3.5 months into an 18‑month planning and redevelopment framework process. This effort includes collecting market and feasibility data, conducting environmental reviews and site assessments, and gathering community input to help inform the future of the site. Together, this information will shape a comprehensive Redevelopment Master Planning & Development Strategy for the GM/JATCO properties. At the conclusion of this process, the Advisory Board will present its complete draft plan to the City Council for its consideration and potential adoption.

The GM/JATCO site includes approximately 250 acres of former industrial land on Janesville’s south side. Its location, scale, and history make it a transformative opportunity for future investment, job growth, and community‑focused redevelopment.
